S.W.A.T
AmericaIn the early 1960s, the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) and the FBI began organizing a joint-military system in order to combat the rising rate of crime in the city of Los Angeles. The result was the creation of a special force named S.W.A.T (the Special Weapon and Tactics unit). Daryl F. Gates, then-commander of the LAPD, is credited with founding S.W.A.T and since then the force has developed into a distinctive crime-fighting unit. In 1971, S.W.A.T became a permanent force with a unified structure: small troops consisting of 6 soldiers and middle-sized troop consisting of 60 soldiers. Their contribution to city security attracted world attention and admiration during the LA Olympics in 1984.
